Zendaya Review

Zendaya is a 26-year-old actress who is currently making waves in Hollywood and pretty much everywhere in the world where people actually care about celebrities. Ever since she appeared as Spiderman’s love interest “MJ” in the newest Spiderman reboot it seems like no one can shut up about her - apparently, there’s just something so magnetic about the combination of her cutesy looks and charming personality, which is why she’s been the talk of Tinsel town for years now. And, while I personally think that her fame and overwhelmingly positive reception are just a *little* exaggerated and somewhat forced, there’s no denying that she’s one of the most popular people on the globe right now.

It seems Zendaya soaks up all the attention every time she appears somewhere, no matter where or in what form she appears in, be it a movie, on the red carpet, in an Instagram post, on an interview, or otherwise. She’s so popular that she even seems to overshadow some of her celeb contemporaries - but then again, she is extremely popular with the younger Gen Z crowd, and if you’re popular with the youngsters then you’re definitely popular. (I mean just look at Mr.Breast, he’s an average-looking YouTuber with no particular performance-based talent or a sense of humor, and he’s also got no charm or charisma, yet he’s more popular than some of the globe’s biggest Hollywood celebrities since a lot of teenagers love his videos).

Anyways, back to Zendaya; lots of younger guys have a crush on her even though she’s not a model-turned-actress like many of today’s popular actresses are. Of course, her famous status makes her seem even more attractive than she is. That being said, even though scores of young dudes simp for her, Zendaya’s officially taken by her Spiderman co-star Tom Holland, and has been for a few years now. Yes, Tom and Zendaya are a genuine on-screen couple-turned-real-life couple, and according to the latest news, they’re still together. But for someone like me, the introduction of Zendaya into my life as a well-known celeb was something that came out of the blue.

I first saw her when she appeared in Spiderman, and since then it seems like everyone and their mother are talking about this young celeb, which was kind of perplexing for me since I had no idea who she was before I saw her in Spiderman, and the sheer fame that she achieved in such a short amount of time baffled me even more. So, who is Zendaya, and how did she become such a famous actress in the first place? More importantly, why is she only referred to by one name, like Seal? If these questions keep you up at night then be sure to keep reading.

Zendaya's first taste of acting came when she joined the theater program at the Oakland School for the Arts. She quickly stood out, displaying a natural flair for performance and a captivating stage presence. And it’s safe to say that her parents’ influence definitely played its part here, as they nurtured her talents and empowered her to embrace her uniqueness from an early age, ensuring that she’s very likely turn out to be a successful theater performer and actress alike. That said, Zendaya started performing in various stage productions from an age as early as eight years old, so she’s already got tons of experience in that field - what was I doing when I was eight? I was playing Nintendo at home, and just like her, today I’ve got tons of experience in that field.

Anyways, Zendaya’s role on "Shake It Up" served as a springboard for her future on-screen endeavors, including her subsequent Disney Originals role as K.C. Cooper on “K.C. Undercover,” another Disney Channel show which is about a high school student who is actually a secret undercover government agent. “K.C. Undercover” aired from 2015 to 2018, and by its finale, Zendaya had already established herself as a notably famous teen actress, and all that fame she garnered is undoubtedly what helped her snag the role of Spiderman’s main squeeze MJ in 2017’s Marvel-produced Spiderman: Homecoming. That role is what propelled her to superstardom, as ever since that movie came out there’s not a soul under 25 who doesn’t know who Zendaya is.

They probably shared a kiss or something in that production, but honestly, I’m not even gonna go ahead and search for that kind of thing - if you really wanna find out whether Zendaya and Zac locked lips in that musical then feel free to look it up on your own. And of course, Zendaya’s also the modern-day MJ, a.k.a. Peter Parker’s girlfriend, and we all know that Peter Parker is none other than the friendly neighborhood Spiderman. I know for a fact that Zendaya shared an on-screen kiss with Tom Holland in the modern Spiderman movies, but in real life, they very likely went all the way to last base as well since they’ve been confirmed to be dating from 2021 and onwards.

Now granted, they were fooling around with one another even as far back as 2017, but they did officially seal the deal together in 2021. So, that’s Zac Efron and Tom Holland checked off on Zendaya’s hit list, but she was also the on-screen love interest of yet another young Hollywood heartthrob; Timothee Chalamet.

Yes, Zendaya is Timothee Chalamet’s love interest in the Dune movies - this guy looks like every teenage girl’s wet dream, and yes, he looks better than Tom Holland, but he’s got this fuck boy energy to him as well, which greatly contrasts Tom Holland’s otherwise Golden Retriever-Esque demeanor. That said, I don’t think Timothee will ever be able to steal Zendaya away from Tom since she seems to be very loyal to him and will probably remain together with him til’ death - that being said, Zendaya does share an on-screen kiss with Timothee in the trailer for Dune 2, and we’ll have to wait and see how intimate they get with one another once the movie releases.

So basically, Rue is like every other modern-day social media and substance-addled teenager; she’s plagued by social media apps and all the body image and attention-related issues that come from them, and she’s also a functioning addict (I mean, aren’t we all in one way or another these days), and to top it all off, she’s also living through puberty and experiencing all the horrible symptoms that come with it. Zendaya’s portrayal of Rue Bennet in Euphoria is definitely more challenging than her past portrayals in Disney shows, or her portrayal as Spiderman’s girlfriend. Rue Bennet is far more emotionally complex and is much more demanding when compared to M.J. or K.C. Cooper, and is also a far more realistic character as well. Thus, it requires Zendaya to imbue a convincing level of emotional resonance and depth in the character which viewers can relate to, and that’s definitely not an easy feat, especially when you’re playing a recovering addict trying to navigate through a drama-filled world full of neurotic and troubled high school teens.

Plus, Zendaya’s the main character of Euphoria, which puts even more pressure on her to carry the show. But Zendaya’s proven that she can indeed act her ass off with her portrayal as Rue Bennet in Euphoria, as she’s received her fair share of praise for that role, and it’s safe to say that Rue Bennet is easily her most challenging role yet, which is why it will indefinitely have a positive impact on the future of her acting career, proving that the young 26-year-old actress is more than just a pretty face. And we’ll have to wait and see whether Zendaya knocks it out of the park with her performance in the second Dune movie, as she wasn’t given a lot of on-screen time in the first one. Either way, this young Hollywood star certainly has a bright future ahead of her as a globally famous Hollywood actress.
