The navigation bar is the review. Posts, Pools, Sets, Tags, Artists, Forum, Comments, Blips — that is a taxonomy, not a menu.

e621 collects furry and anthropomorphic artwork under the imageboard conventions the format has used for years: every post is tagged in depth, tags combine into searches, pools group sequential pages into readable order, and artists are first-class entities with their own pages rather than a line of credit under an image. If you know how to build a tag query, the collection opens up in a way that a scrolling gallery never does. If you do not, the front page will feel like an undifferentiated wall.

Artist attribution deserves the specific mention. On a lot of art aggregators the credit is whatever the uploader typed. Here the artist is part of the structure, which makes it possible to follow a creator across years of uploads and makes takedowns traceable to a person rather than a file.

There is a forum and a comment layer, so the site behaves like a community as much as an archive, with the moderation arguments that implies.
