The original version of this article was a list of French tube sites. The problem with republishing it is not that the sites have necessarily gone — it is that the two things a francophone reader most needs to know about this market now have nothing to do with which tube has the better search.
The access question came first
France moved earlier and harder than most of Europe on requiring adult sites to establish that visitors are adults, rather than accepting a self-declared click. The regulator, Arcom, was given powers to pursue non-compliant services, and the requirement became a genuine operational problem for large international operators rather than a formality.
In 2025 that produced the confrontation it was always going to produce: a major operator suspended French access to several of its best-known sites rather than implement the verification demanded, and the legal position was contested in the French courts, moving more than once. Check the current position rather than taking any article's word for it, including this one.
The structural effect is what matters and it is durable regardless of how any individual case resolved. Access in France now sorts sites into those that verify, those that geoblock, and those that do neither because nobody is looking for them. That third group is where traffic goes when the first two become inconvenient, and it is exactly the group with the least accountability.
The provenance question is the bigger one
The second thing that changed is more serious and more specific to France.
Over recent years French prosecutors have brought major criminal cases concerning the production of amateur-branded pornography, centring on how the people appearing in it were recruited and what they agreed to. The proceedings have been reported extensively in the French press and are not a fringe matter — they reached companies whose branding was familiar to essentially every French consumer of this material.
The point is not to pronounce on cases. It is that "amateur", as a French-market marketing category, was for years attached to material produced under arrangements that became the subject of serious criminal scrutiny. Anyone evaluating a French site on how authentic its amateur content feels is using a criterion that has now been shown to measure the marketing rather than the reality.
If you take one thing from this article, take that. Authenticity as presented is a production value. It is not evidence of anything.
What "French porn site" actually describes
Three different things travel under the label, and separating them makes the category tractable.
Francophone-interface aggregators. Tubes with a French interface, French-language tags, and a library largely scraped or syndicated from the same pool everyone else draws on. The French part is the wrapper. These behave like tubes anywhere: no sourcing, no performer credit, quality across a wide range, funded by advertising.
Domestic production. France has a real production history and a real domestic industry, distinct in style and in the performers it uses. This is the part of the category with actual national character and it is also the part the proceedings above concern.
Community and exchange sites. The amateur-submission model, long-established in France, generally organised as forums with membership. These sit where the consent questions are most acute, for the reasons already given.
Most guides mix all three into one ranking, which is how a scraper aggregator ends up listed above a studio.
Criteria, since the ranking is not here
Judge on provenance first. Does the site say where anything came from, who produced it, or who is in it? Aggregators almost never do, and the absence is the answer rather than an oversight.
Then judge on the age-assurance posture, which has become an unusually informative signal in France specifically. A site that implemented verification made a costly compliance decision. A site that geoblocked made a different one. A site doing neither while remaining reachable is telling you something about how much regulatory attention it expects, and it is not telling you something good.
Then the ordinary things: whether the player is the site's or a third party's, whether clicking produces redirect chains or download prompts, whether an account is demanded before anything is visible, and whether the French interface is real translation or a machine-generated skin over an English catalogue. The last one is quick to check and it separates services built for a francophone audience from services targeting the search term.
Why this is marked partial
Every destination the original article named would need inspecting to be republished. This site's directory carries verified entries for a great many services, and none of these among them, so there was nothing to check against and no first-party research to draw on.
Publishing the old names anyway — in a category where the most newsworthy development of the past several years concerns how some of that material was made — would have been the wrong call. The criteria above will outlast the list either way.
If you want the amateur category approached with those questions applied, or the paid amateur sites where somebody is at least contractually accountable for production, those are checked. This one is not, and saying so is the honest version of the article.
