The structural oddity of this genre is that the person holding the camera is written into the scene. In almost everything else, the camera is a neutral instrument the fiction pretends is not there. Here it belongs to a character, it is usually the character the audience is meant to occupy, and the whole thing collapses if you forget he exists.
