There is a date sitting next to almost everything you watch, and it is doing a lot of work in articles like the one that used to be on this page. Best of the year. Hottest of our time. Seasonal roundups pinned to a specific week.
All of it assumes the date means something. In adult video there are at least four dates for any given scene, they rarely agree, and the one you can see is usually the least informative of them.
The four dates
The shoot date. When it was filmed. This is almost never published, and it is the only one that describes when the thing actually happened. Gaps of months between filming and release are ordinary, and a scene held back for scheduling reasons can sit much longer than that.
The release date. When the producer published it. This one is real, is recorded by the company, and is what a catalogue or a store lists. It is the closest thing to an authoritative date and it exists mainly on the paid side.
The upload date. When a copy appeared on a platform. This has no connection to either of the above. A scene from years earlier can be uploaded today and will show today's date, and that is the normal case rather than the exception.
The re-upload date. When the copy you are looking at replaced an earlier copy that was removed. Takedowns and re-posts churn constantly, so a popular scene's visible date resets repeatedly over its life, each time looking newer than the last.
Whichever of these a site is showing you, it is showing one number without saying which. That is the whole problem.
What that does to seasonal content
Holiday material is produced ahead of the holiday, because the point is to be indexed and ranked before the search traffic arrives. So a scene made for a summer holiday is typically shot in spring and released in advance of the date it depicts — meaning the scene, the release and the occasion are three separate points on the calendar.
Then it gets copied. By its second year the same footage is circulating with fresh upload dates on platforms that never carried the original, and any list assembled from search results will read those timestamps as recency. The list looks current. Most of what is in it is not new, and there is no way to tell from the page which parts are.
That is also why holiday lists in successive years contain so much of the same material without anyone intending it. Nobody is recycling on purpose. The sort order simply cannot distinguish a new scene from an old copy.
The consequence for "best of" anything
A ranking by year requires knowing what came out that year. If the visible date is an upload timestamp, the year is unknowable from the surface, and the ranking is over an arbitrary set.
If you actually want to know what was released in a period, the date has to come from the publisher: a studio catalogue, a store that indexes by release, or a series page that lists in order. Those record the release date because their business depends on it. A free platform records when a file arrived on its servers, which is a fact about the file and not about the work.

The clips could not be found — the ordinary fate of that kind of link, and an illustration of the point above. The personal accounts are not restated, and that is deliberate: handles get renamed, abandoned and taken over by other people, and a four-year-old link to somebody's monetisation page is as likely to land somewhere they have no connection to as it is to reach them. A performer's own current profile is the only listing that stays correct, and republishing a stale one does them no favours.
