Year-end meme lists are the most reliably worthless format on the internet, and the reason is structural rather than a failure of taste. This one was published in December 2018. Almost nothing on it can now be recovered — the images sat on a host that has since gone, the joke depended on a context that has since gone, and the versions still circulating have been recaptioned enough times that the original is unrecoverable.
So this page no longer carries a list. What is worth writing about is the format itself, which is more interesting than any ten examples of it.
The material is someone else's footage
Strip away the caption and a porn meme is a still lifted from a scene, or a short loop cut from one. That is the whole supply chain. The performer is recognisable, the studio's work is the raw material, and neither had any part in the thing being made.
That does not make the format uniquely bad — reaction images have always been built from film, television and news footage. But it does explain the two problems that follow it around. The first is that a performer's most widely reproduced image is often one they never chose and cannot correct, attached to a joke made by a stranger. The second is that the source disappears almost immediately. A frame passed through four re-uploads and a crop carries no metadata, and the "sauce?" reply under every one of these is people trying to reconstruct information the format is designed to strip.
Where they live keeps changing
The single biggest reason a 2018 list reads as archaeology is that the venues moved.
December 2018 is precisely when Tumblr removed adult content from its platform — announced at the start of the month and enforced within weeks. Tumblr was where an enormous amount of this material was collected and recirculated, with reblog chains acting as the archive. That structure did not survive the policy change, and the material scattered rather than relocating intact.
The same year, Reddit closed the subreddit that had formed around synthetic sexual images of real people, and tightened its rules on sexual imagery published without the depicted person's involvement. Other platforms followed with comparable policies. The effect on the meme ecosystem was indirect but significant: a large amount of adjacent material was swept up in the same enforcement, and the communities that curated it fragmented across smaller sites, private servers and messaging groups where nothing is indexed.
Anything published as a "best of the year" before those moves was writing about an address that no longer exists.
What actually persists
A small number of these images have outlived everything around them, and they share a property: the joke does not depend on knowing the scene. Once an image is legible purely as an expression — surprise, resignation, exaggerated enthusiasm — it detaches from its origin completely and circulates for years in contexts with nothing to do with porn. Most people passing one along have no idea where it came from.
Everything else has a half-life measured in weeks. The topical ones die with the topic. The ones that need the source to land die as soon as the source is unfindable, which is fast.
One thing worth naming
A fair amount of what circulated under this banner in the late 2010s was not really joking about sex. It was joking about doing something to someone who had not agreed to it, with the surprise as the punchline. The original version of this page included one of those and treated it as a technique worth recommending.
It is not, and that is not a matter of squeamishness about a meme. Presenting an unannounced act as a smart move is bad advice about sex regardless of the wrapper it arrives in. It is worth being able to spot the difference, because the format is very good at making the two look identical.
If you are looking for the genre now
There is no canonical archive, and any site claiming to be one is a re-upload host with an ad problem. The material lives on general meme aggregators, in subreddits that appear and vanish, and in private channels. Reverse image search remains the only dependable way to find out what you are actually looking at, and it stops working the moment an image has been cropped and recompressed enough times — which, for anything that has been around a while, it has.
