Signing in is needed to upload or interact, and it's handled through Google, Reddit or Twitter as well as email — the Reddit option in particular tells you where a lot of this material and its audience come from.

The upload model is the whole story, good and bad. It means material that doesn't exist on commercial tubes, organised by the people who care about it. It also means no verification a viewer can see. For a platform built entirely on submissions, how consent and age are established is the question that matters most, and the site answers it nowhere.
