NameThatPorn runs on posts asking who a performer is or what a clip came from, answered by other users, with threads marked solved or open and a reverse image search tool alongside. It is a forum rather than an archive: the value is in the people reading, and a thread is worth something only because somebody recognised the answer.

The format works where automated tools fail. Reverse image search struggles with video frames, cropped GIFs and re-encoded uploads, and a person who follows a particular studio will recognise a set in seconds. Solved and open filters let you skip the ones nobody cracked.

There is a real consequence to it, too. Identification routes attention back to the performer and the production, which is the opposite of what stripped and re-uploaded material does.

The same mechanism can be pointed at people who are not performers. Nothing on the public pages describes what the board does about requests to identify someone who never chose to be identifiable, and that is the question a site built on naming people has to answer.
